Rimba Raya is the largest REDD+ project in the world. In terms of avoided emissions delivered to date, it protects nearly 65,000 hectares of peat swamp forest in Central Kalimantan in Indonesian Borneo and avoids more than 130 million tonnes of carbon emissions. The project forms a vital patrolled buffer zone between palm oil estates and the Tanjung Puting National Park, home to one of the last remaining wild populations of orangutans on earth, and provides economic and social upward mobility to local communities.

Rimba Raya was the first REDD+ project validated under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). It has also received triple-gold validation under the Climate Community and Biodiversity Alliance Standard (CBB) and has been validated by the SD Vista Standard achieving the highest possible rating of contributing to all 17 UN SDGs.
